september 11th

On september 11th when the twin towers where hit I was in school in 5th grade. I remember my teach walking into the class after recess and closing the door turning off the lights and explaining to us that the twin towers were hit by just one plane at that point. I remember not knowing what the twin towers were or what all of this meant however no one really did at this point anyway. We took time in the class to discuss the building and why or how this could possibly happen. There was a knock on the door and my teacher was informed that the second tower was hit by a plane as well. My mom had called the school and asked to come get me along with several other students in my class. However the school advised them to let us stay there so we did. We spent the rest of the day talking about the situation and the school made an effort to keep it as calm as possible.
I remember going home and my sisters already being home and my dad was home from work already. I remember barely understanding what all this terrorist attack talk meant. I remember thinking how scared I was that my neighborhood would be a war zone the next day. It was all crazy to think about but at the time I was young and it was a serious situation and I didn't know what to expect. My teacher talked about how it was the longest he had ever watch tv for the next day. He said he was just watching the news for hours along with the rest of the nation.
